What does the word liberal mean to you ?

The Shah's daughter attended Bennington College.

For many of us growing up in the 70 s & 80 s it connotes Rush Limbaugh saying it like it was a soiled 'tissssue'.

Mahboud Z.
may have been  our high school football team's backup kicker and outside linebacker...

We were instructed to call him 'Mike' even though that wasn't his name.

'Mike' was allegedly the younger  Shah's son's same age bodyguard...

Curiously the Shah's family may have moved to our town because the Ambassador to Iran at the time of the Iranian Revolution was Richard Helms, who had attended Williams College as an undergrad.

 ...Aww

Danny Hawkins was our captain and for some reason it fell on his shoulders to tell us how to act when Mike would come to practice, as we had little experience with people from other nations.

Hawk gave us a speech on treating people from other nations with respect before most of us had ever heard the word xenophobia.

It was a pretty good speech for a football player.

...We were told that we shouldn't make fun of other people just because they were different from us  or had odd sounding (to our ears) names and that we were part of a team and so we 'shouldn't call the new kid from Iran Hadji or anything'.

Of course from that point on 'Mike' or Mahboutd was known as 'Hadji', the name of Jonny Quest's  friend who owned a flying carpet and dispensed pithy words of middle eastern wisdom in polite staccato English proper...

Instead of getting angry (as most of us expected him to since we would've in similar circumstances) 'Mike' took a piece of athletic tape tape and wrote 'HADJI' in big letters on it and claimed the name for himself by sticking it on his helmet changing the name somehow from a Saturday afternoon cartoon to something  simply to be admired.

Mike was a freshman in 1979-80, so that meant every year Mike played, Mt Greylock were Kosier League champs and undefeated in the regular season except for the Hoosac Valley game 1980/81.

Massachusetts state high school football championships 1981.

FDR was the world's most famous liberal and he was voted the greatest  president of the twentieth century.

'Mike' and his wife are inventing a device that texts you if your gun is being handled without your knowledge !:

shaka

billy overbaugh was our co-captain in 1977-78 and was our wing back in the pro v formation on offence and strong side safety on defense and if i remember correctly he was the most valuable player in our league then he went on to play for bowdoin ( or was it oberlin? ) college in maine

                             october 2016

tim was her boo

about a dozen of the 1973 players were the older brothers of our 1979-80 team players

they beat hoosac valley

hoosac valley was in the division above us, if we had beat them we would have gone to the mass state superbowl in their division there was no state superbowl game for our division at the time
